Shiplap & Finish Carpentry

Identifying spaces that would benefit from shiplap finish carpentry is a very affordable way to add style to your basement. There are many different styles and applications for shiplap. The most common is the standard slats finished with semi-gloss paint. This is an excellent option behind a TV or to accent a wall. We have also used an electronic fireplace effectively to highlight this room feature. Most styles and finishes are very cost-effective, and all will add significantly to the overall look of whichever room you choose to add this feature.

All types of finish carpentry, from shiplap to batten to crown molding, are inexpensive options that can change the overall look of your home. We can show you examples of our work and fine-tune your bid to include features that you feel will add to the overall style of your basement and home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about basement finishing and adding a bedroom to your basement.

Some options we have included in recent basement finishes include thin brick veneers for accent walls. This is an expensive option, but it looks so good when it is complete. You could also go with a tile mesh on walls to add a complete design to a wall or floor that really stands out. Custom light fixtures are another great option that is more cost-effective than most.

This is the most common area for a playroom, and it’s cost-effective if you want a playroom. The finish cost is minimal because all you need is a drywall finish, a couple of lights, baseboards, and paint. If you include windows between the existing studs, you don’t have to mess with beams, which will add to the overall cost. Most kids love playrooms until their teens; sadly, they feel too old. But while it lasts, it’s also an excellent place for them to read or hang out.

For the last four years, all we have installed have been electric fireplaces. They’re fantastic, and the price is right. They look great, put out a lot of heat, and do not require expensive preparations to work. They’re also easy to trim to be a central aesthetic feature of any room. Overall, this is the best solution for a basement fireplace. Gas fireplaces are fantastic, but they’re expensive. A good, not remarkable, fireplace will still cost over $5,000. You also need to add a gas line and do special framing; the exterior finish can cost as much as the fireplace. For most people, this is just too much, and the benefits of a gas fireplace can’t overcome the low cost and easy functionality of an electric fireplace.

We have two suggestions. First, consider changing up the painting with an accent wall or maybe make an entire room different from the primary color. This is a great way to add a little pizazz to your basement with minimal cost. Another thing that adds a lot to a basement finish is custom lighting. The fixtures aren’t expensive, but they add more to the overall look of a basement than the cost. These are simple and cost-effective ways to add a little style to your basement.
